Qatar Airways is significantly strengthening its African network with the launch of a new destination, the return of three previously suspended routes, and increased frequencies on six existing services. The expansion forms part of the airline’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity between Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the rest of its global network of more than 160 destinations.
New Route
The headline addition is a new three-times-weekly service between Doha and Port Sudan, scheduled to commence on 2 July 2026. Flights will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, making Qatar Airways one of the first major international carriers to restore direct connectivity to Sudan’s Red Sea gateway. The route is expected to provide vital links for business, humanitarian, and leisure travelers while reconnecting Sudan to Qatar Airways’ extensive global network through Doha.
Three African Routes Return
Alongside the new Sudan service, Qatar Airways is resuming operations to three destinations across the continent:
- Kigali, Rwanda – returning with two weekly flights from 16 June 2026.
- Seychelles – resuming with four weekly flights from 16 June 2026.
- Marrakesh, Morocco – returning with daily flights from 1 July 2026.
The resumption of service to Kigali is particularly significant for East Africa, restoring a direct link between Rwanda and one of the world’s largest airline hubs. Seychelles and Marrakesh also regain valuable access to Qatar Airways’ worldwide network, supporting tourism recovery and international trade.

Six Routes Receive More Flights
Qatar Airways is also increasing frequencies on six existing African routes to meet growing passenger demand:
| Route | Previous Frequency | New Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Alexandria (Egypt) | 3 weekly | Up to 7 weekly |
| Cairo (Egypt) | 28 weekly | Up to 35 weekly |
| Cape Town (South Africa) | 7 weekly | Up to 10 weekly |
| Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) | 3 weekly | Up to 7 weekly |
| Lusaka–Harare | 5 weekly | Up to 7 weekly |
| Maputo–Durban | 4 weekly | Up to 7 weekly |
This latest network enhancement underscores Qatar Airways’ growing commitment to Africa. By adding Port Sudan, restoring services to Kigali, Seychelles, and Marrakesh, and increasing frequencies on six routes, the airline is improving access to key tourism, business, and trade markets across the continent. The move also reinforces Doha’s position as a major gateway connecting African travelers to destinations throughout Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East. For travelers, the expansion means more flight options, shorter connection times, and improved access to Qatar Airways’ award-winning global network.
