Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) has officially launched a new direct route linking Dar es Salaam (DAR, Tanzania) with Accra (ACC, Ghana) via Lagos (LOS, Nigeria) forging a stronger air bridge between East and West Africa. The inaugural flight touched down at Kotoka International Airport on January 28, 2026, where it was honored with a traditional water cannon salute.
Bridging East and West Africa’s Skies
The new service marks Air Tanzania’s first commercial flights into Ghana, and the airline also becomes the 26th international airline operating at Accra’s premier airport. The route will be operated with a Boeing 737 Max 9, flying three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Outbound flights will have a stopover in Lagos, whilst the return flight will operate direct from Accra to Dar Es Salaam.

This new route not only provides a direct link between the bustling economic hubs of East and West Africa but also opens up one of the continent’s most significant travel corridors without requiring travel via Europe or the Middle East, which has and in some cases still is the norm.
By cutting travel times and eliminating dependency on third-region stopovers, Air Tanzania’s route not only adds convenience for passengers but also stimulates business travel, boosts cargo capacity, and enhances regional tourism flows, which is a critical factor as African economies seek diversified growth.
