Etihad Airways is significantly enhancing its presence in Africa by adding four new destinations and discontinuing one existing route. This strategic move is part of the airline’s broader expansion plan to double its African network by 2025.
New Destinations
Etihad aims to increase its African frequencies from 39 per week to 50 by mid-2025 and to 57 by the end of the year. This will be supported by increasing frequency on existing routes including Johannesburg, Nairobi, and Casablanca, whilst also doubling their African destinations from 4 to 8 with the addition of the following destinations:
1. Addis Ababa (ADD, Ethiopia)
Starting October 1, 2025, Etihad will commence direct flights from Abu Dhabi to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital. This route will be operated in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, featuring a codeshare agreement that allows seamless travel between the two carriers. Ethiopian Airlines will initiate flights to Abu Dhabi on July 15, 2025 .
2. Algiers (ALG, Algeria)
On November 7, 2025, Etihad will launch flights to Algiers, marking its entry into Algeria. The service will operate four times a week using the Airbus A321LR, providing enhanced connectivity between Abu Dhabi and Algeria.

3. Tunis (TUN, Tunisia)
Beginning November 1, 2025, Etihad will introduce flights to Tunis, Tunisia’s capital. The route will operate three times a week with the Airbus A321LR, offering travellers more options to explore Tunisia.
4. Al Alamein (DBB, Egypt)
Starting July 17, 2025, Etihad will commence flights to Al Alamein, Egypt. The service will operate twice a week using the Airbus A320, expanding Etihad’s reach in Egypt.
Route Discontinuation
As part of its network optimization, Etihad Airways discontinued its flights to Seychelles, effective 22 May 2025. This decision reflects the airline’s strategic focus on routes with higher demand and operational efficiency.
