Zambia Airways Relaunches flights to Zimbabwe

Zambia Airways has resumed direct flights between Lusaka and Harare. The service will operate three times a week using the DHC-8-Q400 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with the following schedule:

  • ZN303: Departs Lusaka at 06:00, arriving in Harare at 07:10.
  • ZN302: Departs Harare at 07:55, arriving in Lusaka at 09:05.

This route was initially launched in 2023 but unfortunately did not last for long. Its relaunch underlines Zambia Airways’ commitment to rebuilding its regional network and boosting connectivity in Southern Africa.

However, the Lusaka–Harare corridor is becoming increasingly competitive. Fastjet Zimbabwe recently launched flights on the same route on April 9, 2025.  Additionally, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, and Kenya Airways operate fifth-freedom flights on the Lusaka–Harare route, offering travellers multiple options and increasing competition. These airlines provide convenient connections between Lusaka and Harare as part of their longer international routes.

The increased competition on the Lusaka–Harare route is beneficial for travellers, offering more choices and potentially better prices. However, it also means that airlines will need to differentiate themselves through service quality, reliability, and customer experience to capture and retain passengers, and in most cases, it’s the smallest airlines that struggle and eventually pull out.
