Air Sierra Leone, the nation’s new flag carrier, has officially inaugurated direct flights between Freetown and London Gatwick, marking a significant milestone in Sierra Leone’s aviation history.
Flight Details
The inaugural flight from Freetown’s Lungi International Airport (FNA, Seirra Leone) to London Gatwick (LGW, United Kingdom) took place on April 27, 2025, coinciding with Sierra Leone’s Independence Day. This event was celebrated as a historic moment for the country, as it restored direct air connectivity between Sierra Leone and the UK for the first time since British Airways suspended the route during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Air Sierra Leone operates the Freetown – London route three times a week:
- From Freetown to London: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 10:40 AM
- From London to Freetown: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:00 PM
The airline’s London flights are serviced by a Boeing 737 Max 8. The fleet also includes a Boeing 737-400 and an Embraer ERJ-145, which are utilized for regional routes within West Africa.

Looking ahead, Air Sierra Leone plans to expand its network to other West African capitals, including Accra, Monrovia, Abidjan, Dakar, Conakry, and Banjul. The airline also has aspirations to extend its services to the United States in the near future.
