EasyJet Expands Horizons: Launches First Flights to Sub-Saharan Africa

In a significant move marking its expansion into new international markets, EasyJet launched its first-ever flights to Sub-Saharan Africa. On the 31st of March, the airline launched direct flight services from London Gatwick Airport (LGW, United Kingdom) to Sal Island (SID, Cabo Verde), a tropical archipelago off the west coast of Africa. This development not only extends EasyJet’s network but also introduces affordable travel options to a previously underserved region.

Historic Route to Sal, Cabo Verde

Cabo Verde Sal Island is EasyJet’s inaugural Sub-Saharan destination, with flights scheduled three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Utilizing Airbus A320neo aircraft, each flight will cover approximately 2,700 miles, making it the airline’s longest route from the UK. The journey is expected to take just under six hours, offering a convenient option for travellers seeking sun-soaked beaches and a warm climate year-round.

Affordable Travel and Package Holidays

To complement the new route, EasyJet Holidays is introducing comprehensive package deals to Cabo Verde. These packages include flights, hotel accommodations, a 23kg luggage allowance, and transfers, with options ranging from family-friendly resorts to adult-only experiences. The airline emphasizes flexibility, offering refund guarantees and best price assurances to enhance customer confidence.

Strategic Expansion into North Africa

Beyond Cabo Verde, EasyJet is also increasing its presence in North Africa. The airline plans to boost capacity on routes to Tunisia and Egypt by 35% during the winter 2024-25 season, aiming to meet strong demand for leisure travel to destinations like Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh, and Enfidha. In North Africa, EasyJet operates to 10 destinations spread across Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia.
