Fastjet launches a new route

Fastjet, a leading low-cost airline in Africa, has unveiled an exciting new route connecting Harare (HRE, Zimbabwe) and Lusaka (LUN, Zambia.) The new service will operate three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This new route is expected to enhance travel between the two neighbouring countries, providing both business and leisure travellers with more options for flying between the capitals.

Flight Details

The Harare to Lusaka flights will depart from Harare at 6:00 AM and are scheduled to arrive in Lusaka at 6:55 AM. The return flight from Lusaka will leave at 7:25 AM, landing back in Harare at 8:20 AM. The early morning schedule is designed to cater to business travelers, offering them the opportunity to make the most of their day once they arrive.

Fastjet will utilize its 50-seater Embraer ERJ145 aircraft for this route. Known for its reliability and passenger comfort, the Embraer ERJ145 offers ample legroom, making it an ideal choice for this regional service. Fastjet will go toe to toe with the likes of Kenya Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Qatar Airways, Malawi Airlines, and Emirates, which all offer flights on this route.

Strategic Importance

This new route is part of Fastjet’s broader strategy to strengthen its regional network in southern Africa. It marks the airline’s third international route after launching services to Johannesburg and Nelspruit in South Africa. Fastjet also operates a number of domestic routes within Zimbabwe, including services connecting Harare to Bulawayo and Victoria Falls.

The introduction of the Harare-Lusaka route is seen as a significant step in boosting trade, tourism, and business connections between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Both countries share strong historical, cultural, and economic ties, and this new route is expected to facilitate deeper connections, particularly in the business sector. The convenience of direct flights between the two capitals will encourage greater investment and collaboration.

Economic and Social Impact

The new route is also expected to benefit local economies. According to Fastjet’s spokesperson, Nunurai Ndawana, the airline is committed to promoting economic growth and social development in the region. “The introduction of this route is a testament to our commitment to supporting the economic and social development of the Zim-Zam region,” said Ndawana.

In addition to fostering economic ties, the route will also open up new opportunities for tourism. Both Zimbabwe and Zambia are home to some of Africa’s most famous attractions, including the majestic Victoria Falls. With more convenient flight options, tourists from both countries and beyond will have increased access to these iconic destinations.
