Brussels Airlines has announced significant changes to its African flight network, effective March 2025. The airline will increase its flight frequencies to Nairobi (Kenya) and Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo), while discontinuing its service to Luanda (Angola).
Increased Frequencies to Nairobi and Kinshasa
Starting in March 2025, Brussels Airlines will operate daily direct flights to Nairobi, up from the current five weekly flights. Similarly, the Kinshasa route will be upgraded to daily non-stop flights, replacing the existing five weekly direct flights and two weekly flights with an intermediate stop in Luanda. This enhancement aims to provide more convenient and efficient travel options for passengers.
Discontinuation of Luanda Service
To accommodate the increased frequencies to Nairobi and Kinshasa, Brussels Airlines will cease its flights to Luanda, with the last service scheduled for March 25, 2025. Connections to Luanda will be consolidated within the Lufthansa Group, with Lufthansa operating three weekly direct flights between Frankfurt and Luanda. Affected passengers will be rebooked on Lufthansa flights.
Expansion of Sub-Saharan Africa Network
These adjustments are part of Brussels Airlines’ broader strategy to enhance its presence in Sub-Saharan Africa. The airline plans to operate 56 weekly flights to the region in summer 2025, a 10% increase compared to summer 2024. The addition of an 11th long-haul aircraft in June 2025 will facilitate this expansion, allowing for daily rotations to Nairobi and Accra, as well as additional frequencies to Banjul, Freetown, and Conakry.
Brussels Airlines’ strategic adjustments reflect a commitment to enhancing connectivity and service quality in key African markets. While the discontinuation of the Luanda service may affect some travelers, the increased frequencies to Nairobi and Kinshasa are expected to offer more convenient options for passengers.
