Kenya Airways took delivery of a Boeing 737-800 aircraft on February 19, 2025. This new addition brings the airline’s total fleet to 35 aircraft, marking an important step forward in its long-term growth strategy. The 12-year-old aircraft is configured with a total of 170 seats and is leased from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE).
The delivery ceremony, held in Nairobi, was a momentous occasion that not only celebrated the arrival of this new aircraft but also commemorated a successful 20-year partnership between Kenya Airways and Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE). The event was attended by prominent figures, including Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary, Davis Chirchir, and members of the Kenya Airways Board of Directors, highlighting the significance of this milestone. In a statement, Firoz Tarapore, the CEO of DAE, shared his excitement, saying, “We are pleased to announce the delivery of this aircraft to Kenya Airways, marking a significant milestone in our 20-year partnership and reaffirming our long-standing relationship.”
This new acquisition is part of Kenya Airways’ broader strategy outlined in Project Kifaru 2, the airline’s turnaround initiative. The addition of the Boeing 737-800 underscores the airline’s continued commitment to expansion, even amidst global aviation challenges. Kenya Airways is actively exploring further fleet expansion opportunities, with a focus on both narrow and wide-body aircraft to enhance efficiency and seat capacity.
This strategic move not only strengthens Kenya Airways’ position in Africa’s competitive aviation market but also signals its adaptability in challenging operational conditions. The airline remains dedicated to expanding its network, improving connectivity, and offering exceptional service to travelers across the continent.
