TAAG Angola Airlines marked a significant milestone in its aviation history with the arrival of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, registered as D2-TEQ. The aircraft named ‘Namibe’ arrived at Luanda International Airport on January 30, 2025. The delivery marks a crucial step in the airline’s fleet modernization strategy and arrives perfectly timed for Angola’s upcoming 50th anniversary celebrations.
The aircraft’s journey to TAAG Angola Airlines is particularly interesting, having originally been built for MIAT Mongolian Airlines before serving as a demonstration aircraft for Riyadh Air. The B787-9 joins TAAG’s existing wide-body fleet, which currently consists of five B777-300ERs and three B777-200ERs, along with seven B737s and a recently delivered A220.

The B787 was secured through a strategic partnership with AerCap, the global leader in aviation leasing. Nelson de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG, emphasized that “The introduction of the Boeing 787-9 reinforces our commitment to efficiency and leading sustainability standards, while leveraging our ability to connect Angola with key international destinations.”
To mark Angola’s 50th anniversary of independence (1975-2025), the aircraft features a distinctive commemorative logo.
