United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Nigeria

A United Airlines flight en route to America left multiple people injured after an emergency was declared due to a technical issue. United Airlines flight UA613, operated by a Boeing 787, departed Lagos (LOS, Nigeria) for Washington (IAD, United States of America) on the 25th of Januargy but had to return to Lagos after declaring an emergency whilst flying over Côte D’Ivoire.

According to eyewitness accounts, the plane lost cabin pressure and dropped abruptly. One passenger described hitting their head on the ceiling due to the sudden drop in altitude. The sharp descent happened not once but three times, causing chaos throughout the aircraft. “It was like riding a rollercoaster,” said a passenger who wished to remain anonymous. “I thought we were going to crash. The screams of the other passengers still echo in my mind.”

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the details of the incident in a statement. Onboard the aircraft were 245 passengers and 11 crew members. While all individuals disembarked safely, the aftermath revealed a sobering picture. 4 passengers and 2 crew members sustained serious injuries whilst 27 passengers and 5 crew members suffered minor injuries.
