Air Senegal Axes 7 Routes

Air Senegal is planning to suspend flights to seven destinations. The route closures are as follows:

  • September 19, New York John F. Kennedy (JFK, United States)
  • September 20, Milan Malpensa (MXP, Italy)
  • September 20, Libreville (LBV, Gabon)
  • September 20, Douala (DLA, Cameroon)
  • September 20, Barcelona (BCN, Spain)
  • September 22, Marseille (MRS, France)
  • September 22, Lyon (LYS, France)

Although two routes to France are being axed, Air Senegal will continue to operate its nonstop flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.

The decision to axe all these routes is part of Air Senegal’s broader efforts to navigate ongoing operational challenges and market conditions. The airline’s fleet, which currently includes eight aircraft, is facing the possible immobilization of half its capacity. This situation follows a legal ruling from a U.S. court on Aug. 21, 2024, granting American leasing firm Carlyle Aviation the authority to seize four aircraft leased to Air Senegal due to $10 million in unpaid fees. The aircraft affected by this ruling include two Airbus A319-100s and two A321-200s, leased since 2018.
