Air Tanzania continues to face challenges with the Airbus A220 with the most recent scare occurring in February. One of the airlines four A220s was operating a scheduled flight from Dar Es Salaam (DAR, Tanzania) to Mbeya (MBI, Tanzania) with 122 passengers when one of its engines started to have problems resulting in the pilot’s having to declare an emergency. The engine was shut down and the aircraft returned safely to Dar Es Salaam.
One of the passengers onboard the flight claimed that the cabin filled with smoke making it hard to breathe during the ordeal but, Public Relations Officer for Air Tanzania, Sarah Reuben said; “The entire incident, from takeoff to returning to JNIA, took about 60 minutes. Even after returning to Dar es Salaam, no passenger showed any signs of health complications or needed medical assistance.”
