Bomb threat at Victoria Falls Airport, Zimbabwe.

A bomb threat at Victoria Falls Airport in Zimbabwe forced the airport to be temporarily shut down, forcing the country’s president to cancel a planned address at a conference on renewable energy. The presidential aircraft was already en route to Victoria Falls and had to turn back to Harare mid flight due to the threat.

Airport authorities were informed by Fastjet airline about an email sent by “John Doe” claiming a credible bomb/firearm threat targeting Zimbabwe’s airports. The threat has resulted in more strict measures (level 3 security measures) being implemented across the three major aiports in Zimbabwe. Some of the 15 new measures introduced to increase security are;

  • Only travelling passengers and airport staff and to be allowed in the terminal building
  • Physical check of all passenger bags
  • International terminal building front drop off and pickup area is temporarily sealed off
  • Supplement patrol with armed police and or army personnel
  • Secondary screening of passengers at boarding gates
