Kenya Airways took delivery of their first Boeing 737-800F and expect to add another one in the first quarter of 2024. The freighter aircraft joins two B737-300 freighters that has been the backbone of Kenya Airways cargo.
Allan Kilavuka CEO and Group Managing Director said “With the addition of this freighter, Kenya Airways will now offer increased cargo capacity to existing routes as well as new cargo destinations and we encourage the market to take advantage of the new provision to maximise the trade opportunities and potential for the region.”
During the airline’s AGM in Nairobi in June, CEO Allan Kilavuka said the carrier would add two converted B737-800 freighters to its fleet and potentially acquire another widebody freighter in the longer term. Kenya Airways (KQ) is on a mission to increase its cargo business from 10% of its total revenue today to at least 20% in five years.
