A Lufthansa Airbus A330-300 (D-AIKS) had to abort its takeoff for a flight to Frankfurt (FRA, Germany) from Abuja (ABV, Nigeria) after it hit an animal on the runway. The aircraft safely aborted takeoff and returned to the gate without any further incident.
Due to the damage sustained, the flight was cancelled. Sources in Nigeria say the aircraft received damage to one of the engines and flaps. The aircraft has been in Abuja since the incident as it is not airworthy. It is likely that Lufthansa will carry out temporary repairs and seek special permission to operate an empty leg back to Germany and have more extensive repairs carried out.
