Qantas to operate A380 to South Africa

Qantas plans to use the double decker Airbus A380 for flight on its Sydney – Johannesburg route starting in July 2024. Currently, the route is operated daily using Boeing 787-9s. Prior to the Covid 19 pandemic, Boeing 747s were operated on the route but these jets were retired with the last one operating its flight for the airline in 2020.

Sydney -Johannesburg route is 11,044km long

Qantas A380s are configured to carry 485 passengers in first class, business class, premium economy, and economy. The B787-9 is configured to carry a total of 236 passemfers across 3 different cabins, which are business class, premium economy, and economy. By deploying the A380, Qantas will increase available seats on the route by more than 100%.
