Air Senegal giving up on Airbus A220

Air Senegal signed a Memorandum of Understanding in November 2019 for eight A220-300s and at the 2021 Dubai Airshow, they signed a lease agreement with Macquarie AirFinance for five A220-300s with an option to add three more. The airline was suppossed to receive one jet by the end of 2021, two in 2022, one in 2023, and one in 2024, yet to date, they have only received one A220-300.

Like many of the airlines operating the A220, Air Senegal is facing challenges with the Pratt and Whitney engines installed on the aircraft. The only A220 in their fleet is currently grounded due to these engine problems. Earlier this year, the airline considered taking legal action together with Air Tanzania which also operates the A220.

In recent developments, Air Senegal is said to be interested in replacing the A220s with the bigger A321neo. They currently have two A321s in their 6 both are 20 years old.
