Afrijet and AURA AERO, a French manufacturer and pioneer in low-carbon aviation, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the Electric Regional Aircraft (ERA). “Afrijet is very involved in aviation decarbonization projects, and ERA is in our view the most credible and mature solution. We are very happy to be associated with its definition right now,” declared Marc GAFFAJOLI, Chairman and CEO of Afrijet.
About AURA AERO and ERA
AURA AERO is a French aircraft manufacturer based at Toulouse-Francazal airport. It was created in 2018 by three aeronautical engineers from Toulouse with the aim of designing electric planes.
ERA is an electric regional aircraft capable of carrying 19 passengers or 1.9 tons of cargo. It can also be configured for private or business travel in an 8 or 9 passenger configuration. ERA has a pressurized cabin and is capable of covering up to 1,600 km and landing on short and unprepared runways. Entry into service is currently targeted for 2030 and the aircraft already has an order backlog of more than 300 aircraft.
About Afrijet
Afrijet is a Gabonese airline that was founded in 2004. The airline started with offering private flights for business or leisure travellers before eventually starting scheduled flights with regular flights in Gabon and to other African countries, such as Cameroon, Sao Tomé and Benin. According to the airlines website, Afrijet currently operates a fleet of 7 turboprop aircraft consisting of one 1 ATR 42-500, 1 ATR 72-500 and 5 ATR 72-600s.
