Royal Air Maroc (RAM) announced a new 2023 – 2037 plan. The airline’s main goal is to become a global carrier by focusing on fleet expansion directly corresponding to new route launches. The expansion will include a hybrid hub and spoke and point to point operation.
Royal Air Maroc intends to gradually increase its fleet of aircraft from the current 60 to 200 aircraft by 2037. No less than 143 total destinations are planned and the airline currently operates to 99. The expansion will be accompanied by a significant increase in passenger capacity from 7.3 million to 31.6 million annually. RAM will offer transcontinental links by reinforcing its transnational network and offering North-South and East-West connections.
The route expansion will focus on strengthening its domestic routes by offering connections to all 12 regions. The medium and longhaul routes will connect Africa, the Middle East, America and Asia and Europe. Targeted destinations in Europe include Manchester, Munich, Zurich and Naples. African destinations include Tripoli, Ndjamena, Abuja, Nairobi, Johannesburg and the island of Sal in Cape Verde. Some destinations are already served and in such cases, focus will be on increasing capacity.
For the ambitious fleet expansion, the Airline says this is already underway, as evident with its 10 aircraft order for Boeing 737-Max aircraft and undergoing negotiations for more Boeing 787 dreamliners. The purchase of new aircraft will take place gradually by relying on the government fund, which will change according to the company’s needs annually. To support all this growth, RAM will increase its workforce from 3,500 employees to over 11,000 employees.
