End in sight for Air Tanzania A220 engine woes

Air Tanzania could finally be done with engine issues which have affected their A220 aircraft for a while now. At some point, Air Tanzania actually had to ground all A220-300 jets in their fleet as the engine problems persisted. For more details on this click here.

CEO, Mr Ladislaus Matindi said, “We faced technical problems and defective engines in Airbus’. It was a global issue, but we expect to return two of them by the end of August or early September and start to provide service.”

In March this year, Air Tanzania and Air Senegal considered joint legal action against Pratt and Whitney, who manufactured the engines installed on the A220-300 aircraft. Air Senegal officials actually flew to Tanzania for a meeting regarding this issue. Click this link for more details.

Another positive for Air Tanzania is the return of one of their A220s which was seized in the Netherlands due to some legal issues. The aircraft was grounded at Maastricht Airport in January 2022 due to engine problems and was later seized in June. The A220-300 aircraft finally flew back to Tanzania on the 7th of June 2023.
