In March, CEO of Indigo mentioned the idea of connecting India and Kenya but made it clear it was still too early to tell as the possible route was still being evaluated. Fast forward 3 months later, and IndiGo has officially announced that they will be launching flights from Mumbai to Nairobi on the 5th of August. This will be the airlines first route to an African country.
The flights are scheduled to be opeated daily using an Airbus A320 aircraft with a block time of 6 hours and 20 minutes for Mumbai to Nairobi, whereas the Nairobi to Mumbai flight will be 5 minutes shorter at 6 hours and 15 minutes. Flights are open for booking on IndiGos website.
The Nairobi – Mumbai route is currently served by Kenya Airways, who are operating two daily flights on the route using a Boeing 737-800 for both flights. In the past, Air India also operated on this route. Air India is currently going through major changes, which include new aircraft and new destinations, but it is unknown when or if they will resume flights to link the two countries.
