United Nigeria Airlines plans to add 12 aircraft to its fleet

United Nigeria Airlines announced that it plans to expand its fleet by acquiring 12 Embraer aircraft which will allow the airline to expand its destinations in Nigeria as well as fly to new international destinations in Ghana, Angola, South Africa, Niger Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, and Senegal as well as any other countries where demand is seen.

Of the 12 aircraft expected, two will be E190s, and 10 will be E175s. The E190s are expected to be delivered by the fourth quarter of 2023, and the E175s will be delivered in batches over a period of 2 years. Commenting on the expansion plan, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the airline, Mazi Osita Okonkwo, said “United Nigeria Airlines is not relenting in its effort to sustain its presence in the aviation sector and further serve Nigerians better. The acquisition of more aircraft is in accord with our business development and growth plan. We are bringing in Embrarer-190 aircraft. We expect them to be in Nigeria by the end of the fourth quarter of year 2023. We are also expecting another set of aircraft thereafter.”

United Nigeria Airline is a young airline having only launched operations in 2021. They currently serve 9 cities in Nigeria using a fleet of Embraer ERJ145 jets, and just recently, one of the ERJ145s was involved in an incident, which resulted in the nose gear collapsing.
