If you’ve ever had to fly, you know you’ve always had to keep reminding yourself that you’re only allowed a maximum of 100ml of liquids in your carry-on luggage. A rule dating back to November 2006. In as much as the rule is annoying, you have to comply, or airport security will give you a simple choice during check-in, either you toss it in the bin or go back where you’re coming from. Simple right 😅.
You can start celebrating now because those days are soon to be over. Well, it’s not that simple, but yes, an end is in sight. Starting from June 2024, the 100ml rule is set to be gradually lifted. A new rule is coming into effect that allows the capacity of liquids in your carry-on to be 2 litres. This will be made possible by implementing new scanning systems that use CT X-ray technology to provide a 3D image of items in passenger bags, as well as deploying advanced threat detection algorithms. Several trials conducted at some airports since 2018 have demonstrated the effectiveness of this new screening technology.
So, the ban is therefore reliant on getting new airport equipment installed, and as we all know, this will definitely take some time to implement worldwide and it could therefore be a while before it actually becomes a world over trend.
