IndiGo evaluating Kenya as its first African destination.

IndiGo is an Indian low-cost carrier based at Gurgaon, Haryana, India. The carrier is expanding both in terms of its fleet as well as its destinations. In terms of aircraft, IndiGo has over 300 jets in its fleet and is expected to place an order for about 500 more jets. In terms of new routes, the airline is looking at expanding to Africa and Central Asia. The airline’s CEO, Pieter Elbers said, “We will likely introduce new flights to Nairobi and Jakarta this coming summer. We are looking at a few destinations in central Asia, but that has not yet been decided.”

As is evident through the statement, it’s all currently under evaluation, and nothing has been finalised. In the case that this does go through, Nairobi will become the first city in Africa that IndiGo will operate to. It will not be the first airline to link India and Kenya as Kenya Airways and Air India already offer flights between the two countries.
