Following the success of freighter operations during the pandemic, Kenya Airwyas is looking towards expanding its frighter fleet by adding two Boeing 737-800Fs. Currently, their fleet consists of two Boeing 737-300 freighters. Kenya Airways’ cargo director Dick Murianki said, “They (B737-800Fs) can go from Nairobi to the Middle East and India and even have the range to reach Istanbul and southern Europe carrying around 20 tonnes.”
There is the possibility of acquiring long-range freighter jets after securing the B737-800SF. Kenya Airways chief executive Allan Kilavuka mentioned how the B787-8 had opened new possibilities during the pandemic when the jets were used to operate cargo flights to Europe and China with each flight carrying about 50 tonnes of cargo. According to him, this proved a business case for dedicated cargo flights.
