Kenya Airways Aircraft Shortage

Kenya Airways might be forced to scale back flights and, in some cases, cancel them completely. This is due to delays in getting aircraft which had been sent for scheduled maintenance back into service. The airline says the delay is being caused by global challenges with the supply of some aircraft components. What makes the delays so dire for Kenya Airways is the fact that they do not have any extra aircarft to deploy and help alleviate the current shortage.

A statement released by the airline explaining the parts shortage read, “The challenges have been occasioned by the Ukraine war crisis which has significantly crippled the Russian supply chain crucial to global aviation. The aviation supply chain is highly dependent on raw materials from many countries including Russia. For example, 100% titanium used on Embraer and 35% titanium used on Boeing are sourced from Russia. With a limited inventory, airlines have had to look worldwide to find the parts they need.”
