A South African Airways (SAA) Airbus A320 (ZS-SZJ) collided into a Boeing B737-800 (ZS-SJH) after the tow bar of a tow truck broke resulting in the A320 losing control and colliding into the parked B737-800. No passengers were on-board both jets when the incident occurred at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa. The A320 belonging to SAA recieved damage to the wing tip whist Safairs B737-800 tail section was damaged.
“This is truly an unfortunate development as this takes out the seat capacity of two aircraft, an SAA A320 and a FlySafair B737, out of the market at a time when our passengers are experiencing higher ticket prices due to limited aircraft availability on our domestic market,” said SAA executive chairperson and CEO John Lamola
