South African Airways (SAA; Johannesburg, South Africa) announced that it plans to resume at least four of its old routes before the festive season. The four destinations are Blantyre (BLZ, Malawi), Lilongwe (LLW, Malawi), Victoria Falls (VFA, Zimbabwe), and Windhoek (WDH, Namibia).

SAA also plans to increase flight frequencies to Accra (ACC, Ghana), Cape Town (CPT, South Africa), Durban (DUR, South Africa) Harare (HRE, Zimbabwe), Lusaka (LUN, Zambia), Mauritius (MRU, Mauritius) and Kinshasa (FIH, Democratic Republic of Congo). According to the airline, these changes represent the second phase of ‘SAA’s post-Covid restart operations’ which commenced thirteen months ago.
In trying to keep up with the expansion plans and increased frequencies, SAA will increase their Airbus A320 jest from 2 to 5. Two of the 3 jets have been delivered with the final expected to arrive this month. While new jets arrive, SAA will be getting rid of all its A319 jets in 2023 and the A340 will also be removed from the airlines fleet and will be replaced by a similar sized aircraft.
