Aircraft burns at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Int Airport.

A veld fire which started in an adjacent community within the vicinity of the airport managed to spread to 2 non operation aircraft which were subsequently burnt. The damaged aircraft include one CRJ200 and one Boeing 737.

The fire resulted in the temporary closure of runway 21L/03R which is mainly used for landings. The fire was eventually put out with no further damage to property and runway 21L/03R was re-opened. According to the airport, no flight delays were caused by the fire.
